OUR ACHIEVEMENTS:
Conducted several home
visits in children’s home such as Nyumbani children’s home, New life home
in yaya, New life home in Makina,Kenyatta Hospital,Cherils children’s home
and mother Teresa children’s home and all this places the youths have
offered their services voluntarily and also helped in donating food as
well as giving hope to those we have met.
We have conducted more clean
up exercises every month and also helped in planting trees in some schools
which the community has appreciated our efforts and they have also offered
their help in terms of helping in the clean up exercises.
Community outreach using
theater has been another achievement especially in the field of HIV and
AIDS and Violence. The youths have been keen in ensuring that the
communities live in peace and also show care to all despite the situation
one is in Over 20 awareness campaigns have been conducted targeting all
the villages in kibera.
The organization has also
been able to train 60 youths in peer education and mostly reproductive
health and HIV and AIDS as well as the alternative to violence. We have
seen youths using this knowledge in empowering the community.
The organization has also
been able to create peer education clubs in six schools (three primary and
three secondary school) whereby our youth practice their peer education
skills and also help in mentoring the youths in schools and in the
community.
Talent show has been
another achievement where by we have been able to host other youths and
brought in mind the identification of talents in soccer, skit, poetry,
dances and narrative. This has led to a number of the youths to be given
opportunity in composing music where by we have two who have recorded
their songs and are selling the C.Ds
The organization has also being able to network with different
youth’s group and organizations that has made a great impact on the youths
lives. This has made the organization to grow in many ways such as most of the
youths have been able to interact with their fellow youths from other
organizations and groups.
OUR CHALLENGES:
One of the greatest
challenge we face as an organization is lack of adequate funds to carry
out our activities as planned in our work plan. As an organization we are
struggling to raise funds by seeking for funds and also from little
contribution from members on weekly bases.
Most of the organization’s
members are still students, so most of their time they spend in school
than in the organization, thereby the organization can not conduct some
activities in the week.
Another challenge in the
organization is the issue of gender. The organization has fewer females as
compared to the males. As an organization we believe that for any organization to succeed there must be
gender sensitivity in that organization. From the late research we
conducted we discovered that this is in almost all the organizations and
the cause is poor communication and relation between the parent/guardian
and this girl since the parents believe that their children are going to
be in bad company and might even get pregnant. We are trying to mobilize
girls by having a door to door visit to our member so as to establish good
relationship with the parents so as for them to know where or who their
children are with.
Majority of the youths
have been seeking for opportunity to have more trainings on different
issues but because of inadequate resources it has been hard to reach them.
Youths have always thought
of having computer lessons though we try with the two we have it has
always been a challenge because they are many and the computers are only
two.
For sustainability and
well being of the organization the youths are working on art and bead work
but the challenge is that finding market has been a problem.
